Barack Obama: Re-Elect Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky for PA House

Swarthmore, Friday, November 4, 2016— Barack Obama has endorsed state Representative Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, for re-election in the 161st Legislative District.

The contest has received national attention because of Krueger-Braneky’s historic upset victory in a 2015 special election. She is the first woman to represent the 161st District, and the first Democrat to win there since the 2010 Tea Party wave.

“We are thrilled that President Obama is endorsing our candidates in some of the most competitive races across the country,” said Jessica Post, Executive Director of the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee. “His endorsement highlights how crucial state legislative elections are to building on the progress the President has achieved and to continuing to move our nation forward.”

Obama has also endorsed Delaware County Democratic candidates Barbarann Keffer (163rd Legislative District), Elaine Paul Schaefer (165th Legislative District), and Marty Molloy (9th Senatorial District), all of whom are running for open or strongly competitive seats.

Rep. Krueger-Braneky said: “I am honored and energized by Barack Obama’s endorsement, because this election is not just about me, it is about standing up to the extreme Republican agenda that protects special interests, interferes in the personal choices of women, and stands in the way of commonsense gun regulations. I am running for re-election to expand on Barack Obama’s legacy of fighting to protect our communities and giving our middle class a chance to get ahead.”
